Frequently Asked Questions

Scrapping your van can initially seem like a daunting process, especially if you haven’t done it before. That’s why at ScrapVan123, we make the process as simple and straightforward for you as we can. Take a look at our customer’s frequently asked questions below to find out how we can help.

General

I CAN NOT FIND MY LOGBOOK2022-09-02T12:36:35+01:00

This is not a problem as we are able to scrap your vehicle without a logbook. We will need to see some evidence that you own the vehicle before we take it away. Please make sure you have this to hand before you get in touch.

CAN I HAVE A CERTIFICATE OF DESTRUCTION WHEN YOU COLLECT MY VEHICLE?2023-02-10T15:31:19+00:00

We cannot offer a certificate until the vehicle has gone through the destruction process. We can offer you an intention letter and a full sales contract, and the certificate will then follow within a few weeks.

DO YOU HAVE A LICENSE TO COLLECT VEHICLES?2022-09-02T12:37:22+01:00

As a fully DVLA registered business we hold a license to legally collect vans. All of our agents have the relevant documentation with the Environment Agency. We are also able to collect cars and lorries.

DO YOU BUY VANS?2023-02-10T15:36:47+00:00

Yes. Please look at our home page to find out more about our 3 step process that we offer.

DO YOU DONATE VEHICLES TO CHARITY?2022-09-02T12:37:45+01:00

We don’t directly donate the vehicles to charity, but we can donate your scrap payment to a charity of your choice. Please let us know when you get in contact with us if this is something you are considering.

MY VAN IS NOT REGISTERED IN THE UK, WILL YOU STILL COLLECT IT?2023-02-10T15:37:04+00:00

Yes, but as it is not registered with the DVLA, we are unable to offer you a Certificate of Destruction. We can produce an email with details that it has been scrapped which is normally sufficient. Please check with the authorities in the country of your vehicle’s origin.

The Process

DO I NEED TO SIGN THE LOGBOOK?2022-09-02T12:36:22+01:00

No, we will complete section 9 and this is for your retention. We take the balance of the logbook along with the vehicle, and on the day of it being scrapped, we will advise you to send section 9 to the DVLA or apply online.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE A CALL?2022-09-02T12:36:43+01:00

We aim to call within one working hour after submitting your vehicle to our website. Your details are sent via a data link to our collection driver. We aim to collect all vehicles within 24 hours, or at the customer’s convenience.

DO I NEED A CERTIFICATE OF DESTRUCTION?2023-02-10T15:31:11+00:00

Certificates of destruction will only be issued to scrapped or end-of-life vehicles. If you require a certificate of destruction, we can provide this to you once the destruction process is completed. If you have not received the certificate within 2 weeks then call us and we will chase it up.

DO I NEED TO BE THERE WHEN YOU COLLECT?2023-02-10T15:31:33+00:00

No. It is common practice to collect vehicles during the day when the owner is at work. Simply let our collection staff know your intentions when we call to arrange collection.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPENING HOURS?2023-02-10T15:31:42+00:00

We can collect your vehicle from Monday to Friday between 8:30 to 17:30. At the weekend we open from 10:00 to 14:00, however, you can request a valuation at any time of the day. Please discuss with us if you need to have your vehicle collected outside of our hours, and we will try to accommodate your needs.

CAN I RETAIN MY NUMBER PLATE?2023-02-10T15:36:55+00:00

Yes. Simply get a V778 Retention Document from the post office. Once it is on retention, only then contact us to collect your vehicle and we can move forward from there.
